Art of the title analysis
For my research I'm going to analyse a thriller opening, for this task I have decided to analyse the film Deadpool, Deadpool is a action/ thriller/ comedy which titles have been very thoroughly thought out. The directed is Tim Miller, and the layout supervisor (who created this scene) is Franck Balson. I've seen this film before and I love it the way its made and how the film breaks the fourth wall is so unique as the majority of films don't do this, also the way in which they've used the main characters personality in the titles works really well to introduce him into the film: he's sarcastic, cocky and arrogant. Below is the opening clip...
Through out the beginning of the opening sequence they've used an extreme close up and pans around the scene not showing you the whole imagine until the end in which it shows a car rolling. They've done this to show detail within the scene as its mid scene so the audience doesn't know what's happening and where the character is. Through the entire movie this is used as there is a lot of uses of flash back clips to explain the story of what's happening and how he's gotten to where he is during the title sequence.
In the titles, instead of being serious like any normal title sequence by putting who directed, who starred in it etc. in Deadpool they've used satire in their titles to show that the thriller/ action film isn't what it may seem as it makes the film kick off with something funny and relatable, as the titles they use are things that are what you expect but wouldn't hear the film makers say i.e. a British villain.
Also in the sequence, the majority of all the colours used (such as the greys, whites, browns) are very bland and don't stand out however with the colour red, colour correction has been used in editing to make the red more vibrant and stand out more, this is done because one it is Deadpool's colour and also could be a code for death/ danger, which is foreshadowing what is to come in the movie, examples below.

The soundtrack behind the sequence -"Angle of the morning" by Juice Newton- is used as a symbolic message to represent Deadpool as the song is an example of soundtrack dissonance, which is when the music that's in the scene is juxtaposed against the scene itself. This is like Deadpool himself, Deadpool contrasts with the typical superhero stereotype which would be happy and cheerful and do anything for the good of mankind which is the opposite of Deadpool who is bitter, arrogant and self absorbed who only fights 'evil' for his own gain.
Soon I should be posting another blog comparing this title sequence to another so until then.
